CONCLUSION DIRECT AND INDIRECT SPEECH



Direct Speech:
Direct speech is the sentence that if reported speech tell the real word. The sentences unconnected with “That” but with point.

Indirect Speech:
Indirect speech is the sentence that if reported speech give the main words that the speaker used and not the real word. On indirect speech the sentences connected with “That”. Time model on reporting verb no need to change but time model on reported speech have to changed according to reporting verb’s time.

There are the examples of the difference between direct and indirect speech:
He said “I am working hard” (Direct Speech)
He said that he was working hard (Indirect Speech)
From the example we can conclude that the difference between direct speech and indirect speech is on direct speech, the sentence use the quote (“ ”) but not on indirect speech.
STATEMENT
Statement on indirect statement “That” use as the connector of the introduction  sentences and reported speech.
Example:
Mary said, “I am planning to take a trip next week”
Mary said that she was planning to take a trip the following week
QUESTION
If the direct question on YES or NO answer so IF or WHETHER support the introductory phrase and reported words. We have to change the tenses from simple present tense to simple past tense.The introduction sentences is: IF or WHETHER
Example:
1. Tom said to me “Are you hungry?”
    (Tom asked me whether I was hungry)
       (Tom asked me if I was hungry)

2. Sam said to me, “Where do you live?”
    (Sam asked me where I lived)
On this statement , no need to use “IF” or “WHETHER” because that statement we use for asking the information and there are no changes like who,what,when,where,why,and how.
